From our friends at Community Services Unlimited, Inc:
DONATE YOUR EXCESS FRUIT! We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Tree of Life Harvest Corps Program created in partnership with another LA nonprofit, Food Forward (please check out foodforward .org). The Tree of Life Harvest Corps aims to identify, care for, and harvest from fruit trees growing in South LA. When the trees are ripe, our volunteers harvest the fruit. Rather than go to waste, the thousands of pounds of fruit are used by CSU’s Village Marketplace program, made into value added products, and/or donated to Food Not Bombs. Our first pick yielded about 900 pounds of grapefruit some of which has created a delicious grapefruit marmalade.
Our next pick of two local lemon trees is on February 28th at 4pm and will take about two hours, we anticipate having at least one pick per month so come on out and BECOME A VOLUNTEER FRUIT PICKER! We are looking to engage proactive and motivated volunteers with Tree of Life who will have the opportunity to apply for a paid part time position (that could become full-time) in the coming months.
If you have fruit to donate, you’d like more information on how to get involved, or want to attend this pick please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
