Upcoming School Food Policy Training 5/24, 5/31 or 6/5

The Healthy School Food Coalition / Coalición para Alimentos Saludables Escuelas is hosting three School Food Policy & Organizing trainings on May 24th, May 31st or June 5th. Participants will receive a copy of HSFC’s brand new toolkit!


All trainings will be held at the Mercado La Paloma conference room located at 3655 S. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90007.  Trainings are from 12:30 pm to 4 pm and lunch will be provided.


We are looking to train agencies, organizations and groups that work with parents, students/youth in Los Angeles area and who are interested in learning about school food and nutrition policy in Los Angeles Unified School District.


We especially extend this training invitation to all those who want to play an active role in supporting students’ health and food access and ensure that the school food and nutrition policies are a enforced in schools daily.


What to expect of the training? At the training, you will learn:

  • How federally funded school nutrition programs work
  • How LAUSD is organized
  • The structure of LAUSD
  • The what and why of the menu cafeteria changes
  • Strategies to work with and organize students, parents, and other community members to support the implementation of district-wide school food and nutrition policies.

The Healthy School Food Coalition (HSFC) is a group of committed parents, teachers, students, and community members working to develop and implement comprehensive food and nutrition policies in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). HSFC is one of several food justice programs at the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI) at Occidental College.
